BARABOO - Joseph John Screnock III, age 84, of Baraboo, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 Complete Care Jefferson Meadows in Baraboo.
He was born April 15, 1942 in Passaic, NJ to Joseph John Screnock II and Elsie (Newman) Screnock. His family moved to Friendship, WI when he was a senior and graduated from Adams-Friendship High School and then moved to Baraboo. He graduated from UW Madison and then attended UW Law School. He married Evelyn Wegert of Baraboo on November 7, 1964.
After graduating Law School, Joe opened a law office in Westfield and was later elected District Attorney of Marquette County. After seven years he moved his family to Baraboo and opened a law practice there.
Joe was a member of the Baraboo Lions Club and the Fortnightly Literary Club. He was instrumental in founding the local disc golf course and was co-founder of what became the Living Word Bible Camp in Grand Rapids, MN.
Joe and Evelyn enjoyed automobile trips together. They also enjoyed their 15 grandchildren during “Cousins’ Week”, when all the grandchildren spent a week with them each summer. They also have 10 great grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; and their four children, Joseph IV (Crystal) of Morrison, IL, Jeanne Crowell (Mark) of Lansing, MI, Michael (Karen) of Reedsburg, and Jonathan (Donna) of Flagler Beach, FL.
Joe will be greatly missed by his eleven siblings: Francis Adeney, Thomas, Catherine Fransell, Paul, Russell, Elizabeth Newman, Esther Sue Murray, Lee John, Robert, Ruth Prchlik, and Wayne.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home with Brother Dan Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Living Word Bible Camp of Grand Rapids, MN.
