Lolita Lehman


Lolita M. Lehman, age 97 of Fairfield went to her Heavenly home on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at St. Clare Hospital. She was born to Albert and Martha (Giebel) Brandt on Nov. 19, 1920 in Summit Township, Juneau County, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wonewoc, WI. Lolita attended rural schools in Summit Township. She worked in private homes in Reedsburg and Baraboo. When the B.O.W. Plant was first being built in Sauk County, she worked in the food department at the plant site.After coming to Baraboo, Lolita joined St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church where she remained a faithful member the rest of her life. She met Alfred Lehman of Baraboo just before he enlisted in the Navy during WWII, and they were married Dec. 24, 1942 on his first leave from the service. She followed him to his training school at Minnesota and later to San Diego, California. She worked at departments stores where ever they traveled and they lived in California for a year until Alfred was shipped overseas to a repair base in Admiralty Islands in the Pacific. Lolita then returned to Baraboo and again worked in the food department at the B.O.W. Plant until the end of WWII. When Alfred returned home from the war, together they bought the Lower Narrows Orchard in 1946, which they ran until health problems caused Alfred to retire from the orchard and turned the farm over to his son, Ronald.They continued to live on the farm but changed to raising garden produce to sell at the market days when it was first started in Baraboo many years ago. Some of the many hobbies of Lolita were knitting, crocheting and sewing. She made hundreds of stuffed animals to sell at the market stand and craft sales she attended. She also knitted caps and mittens to sell and give to the needy. She sewed and pieced many large quits to give to grand and great-grandchildren and friends. She loved gardening, canning and freezing the many produces they raised. Last but not least she always had her flock of laying hens, first it was in the hundreds but later years it was in the fifties, but she had to have her chickens right to the end. Her family will always remember her for her unwavering love, loyalty and dedication for her family.Lolita is survived by her two sons, Ronald and Philip of Baraboo; daughter, Marion DeShazo; two grandchildren, Richard (Amanda) DeShazo and Lisa (Mike) Mayfield, all of Texas as well as five great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Adeline Gendreau of Florida, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred in Oct. 2000; sister, Elaine Zinke in 2014; brother, Donovan in 2017; a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
