Dean Duane Dettmann


Dean Duane Dettmann, age 80 of Rock Springs passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at his home. Dean, son of Fredrick and Iva (Moldenhauer) Dettmann was born Aug. 15, 1937 in Baraboo. On Oct. 12, 1957 he was united in marriage to Donna Clapper in Rockton, Illinois at Old Stone Church. Dean worked as an auto mechanic, was a security guard at Badger Army Ammunition Plant for many years then Wisconsin Power & Light and after his retirement he worked for Weaver Auto Parts. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the holidays and birthdays. In his free time Dean enjoyed working on cars, NASCAR, watching football, the History Channel and listening to country music. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Springs.Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Donna of Rock Springs; children, Diane (Richard) Powers of Muscoda, Denise "Dede" (Jim) Schultz of Trempealeau, Douglas (Christine) Dettmann of Baraboo; grandchildren, Derrick (Ashley Voll) Powers, Brooke Dempsey, Drew (Zach Delmore) Dettmann, and Dustin Dettmann; great-grandchildren, Landon and Heydan; sister, Karen (Glen) Stieve of North Freedom; step-grandchildren, Amy, Nicole and Jordan; 9 step-great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Herb Meyer; sister, Lonna Mortimer; and his grandson, Brandon Powers Peterson.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Springs with Pastor David Karow officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Redlin Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to be used at a later date.
