Shirley A. Burns


Shirley A. Burns, age 81 of Lyndon Station died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Shirley, daughter of John and Ruth (Geouge) Higgins was born Sept. 5, 1936 in Lenor, North Carolina. On Dec. 8, 1962 she was united in marriage to Samuel T. Burns in Frezno, California. Shirley spent most of her working life as a seamstress in various capacities, she then worked in the restaurant business with her husband. Most recently she worked in the concessions in the bingo hall at Ho-Chunk. Shirley's family will remember her for having a dedicated work ethic and always working her way to a management position in any job she had. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, gardening and making quilts and baby blankets for her family members.Survivors include her children, Jerry (Linda) Burns of Wisconsin Dells, Mark (Deanna) Burns of Markesan, Tim Burns of Baraboo, Thomas (Staci) Burns of Cambridge; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Bill Higgins of Frezno, California; brother-in-law, Kenneth Burns of Wausau; her beloved Chihuahua, Peanut as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel; and her siblings, John Higgins and Betty Strickland.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Redlin Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Newberry officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Baraboo. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Meriter Hospital in Madison.
