Ethel “Tess” Youngen


Ethel "Tess" Youngen, age 99 of Baraboo died Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Sauk County Health Care Center with her daughter by her side. Ethel, daughter of Bert and Anna (Bensen) Hancock was born on June 11, 1918 in Aurora, Illinois. After graduating from West High School in Aurora she was employed as a bookkeeper for 30 years. On July 12, 1941 Tess married Carl Joseph Youngen at Holy Angles Church in Aurora, Ill; he preceded her in death in 1991. She was an avid ice skater and swimmer and won several awards for that. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Barnabas in Mazomanie and Dane County Outreach. She loved working in her flower beds throughout her life and caring for her pets and all animals. Weekly she picked up her friends the girls' to play bingo in Cross Plains. Tess was an awesome, unselfish, caring, devoted, loving and generous mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family. She will be remembered for how she lovingly cared for her husband until his death.Survivors include her daughter, Sally (Rob) Wehler of Baraboo; grandsons, Randy Wehler of Baraboo, Kelly (Dianne) Wehler of Black Earth; great-grandsons, Trevor "Big Guy" Wehler of Baraboo; Jacob Wehler of Black Earth; nephew, Gary (Deni) David of La Jolla, California as well as nieces, and a nephew in Florida.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; brother, Wally Hancock, sister-in-law, Elizabeth David and brother-in-law, Sam David.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Jared Holzhuter officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at church. A luncheon at church will follow. Burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter in Tomah. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Sauk County Health Care Center for the loving and compassionate care shown to Tess over the last few weeks. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
