Ruth I. (Shimniok) Licht


Ruth Irma (Shimniok) Licht was born September 7, 1925, at home in Sumpter Township, WI, the daughter of John and Elsie (Schneider) Shimniok. Ruth was baptized October 25, 1925 in the Sumpter Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 17, 1940, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie Du Sac. Ruth graduated from high school in North Freedom, WI. On November 8, 1947 she united in marriage to Marvin Herman Licht. They farmed together and raised four children, Shirley, Marvin, Daniel, & Linda. Ruth was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Baraboo. Ruth was a dedicated farmwife, working beside her husband and family as long as she was able. She enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower. Although, being practical she would say, you can't eat flowers. Over the years, she also liked raising chickens, geese, ducks and sheep. In addition, she also enjoyed cats, giving homes to many strays over the years. She is survived by daughters, Shirley (Jim) Roecker of Reedsburg and Linda (Ron) Green of Winneconne; daughter-in-law, Judy Licht of North Freedom. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, LaDell Shimniok and Althea (Burdell) Trow, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2002; sons, Marvin D and Daniel, sister Lorna (Lyle) Baumgarten; brothers, Ernest (Elizabeth) and Raymond Shimniok; brother-in-law, Norman Licht; sisters-in-law, Gertrude (Merlyn) Pieper, Arloween Oyan, and Sylvia (Len) King. On April 1, 2018, at St Clare Meadows in Baraboo, the Lord of life and death welcomed Ruth into her eternal home. She was 92 years old. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St John's Lutheran Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Nick Maglietto officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Redlin Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be held at Kingston Cemetery, Township of Merrimac. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church are appreciated.
