Martin Albert Alwin


Martin Albert Alwin, age 85 of North Freedom died Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Clare Meadows. Martin, son of Martin Frank and Hazel Agnes (Meske) Alwin was born Aug. 12, 1932 in Baraboo. He attended Reedsburg High School and graduated with the class of 1951. While in high school he competed on the football team and had the record number of tackles; he was recruited for the University of Wisconsin team but remained on the family farm. On Oct. 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Anna Helen Young. Martin was self-employed as an electrician, owning and operating Alwin Electric until his retirement. He was an unwavering Green Bay Packer fan. In his free time he enjoyed creating stained glass objects, woodworking, gardening, deer hunting, spoiling grandchildren and bird watching.He is survived by his sons, David of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and Anthony (Mary) of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Nicole (Clay) Englerth of McFarland, Natalie Alwin of Tucson, Arizona, Alex Alwin of Tucson, Arizona; great-grandsons, Ethan Berg and Ty Englerth as well as friend, June Jackson of Baraboo; he is further survived by other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; and sister, Phyllis Klein.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom with Pastor Andrew Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Freedom Fire Department. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.Family wishes to thank his many friends, without whom he would not have been able to continue living at home as long as he did.
