Dora V. Darling


Dora Violet Darling, age 82, passed away on February 10, 2018 at the Sauk County Health Care Center. Dora was born the daughter of Will and Mary (Hair) Schulenburg on May 8, 1935 in Britton, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Walter Emery Darling, Sr. on December 17, 1953 in Hecla, South Dakota. Dora worked for the Sauk County Commission on Aging, today known as the Aging and Disability Resource Center, as a Benefit Specialist for many years. She had been a long time member of the North Freedom Methodist Church; she loved to sing as a soloist as well as in the choir for the church. Dora enjoyed ceramic painting as a hobby; which she would usually give away as gifts. She also very much enjoyed to read, and traveling with her husband, Walter. Dora especially loved her family, most of all her children and grandchildren. Dora is survived by her children, William (Jill Mohn) Darling and Wayne (Valerie) Darling; grandchildren, Jason (Jenny), Jenny, Matthew (Cassandra), Lucas, Wesley Jr., Bailey and Jessica; as well as great-grandchildren, Aiden, Adam, Jake, Samantha and Talia. She is further survived by daughters-in-law, Billie Jean and Sung Darling; brother, Tom (Debbie) Smothers; and dear friends, Buck and Deb Harvey, Kay Cowing and Kitten and Judy Bloss; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Will and Mary Schulenburg; husband, Walter; and sons Lawrence, Dale, Walter Jr. and Wesley Sr. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at North Freedom Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Quinn officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Dora's name. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Sauk County Health Care Center for their loving and compassionate care. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
