Thurman Fox


Thurman Fox, age 95 of Madison died Thursday, December 21, 2017. Thurman, son of Orville and Francis (Smith) Fox was born Aug. 7, 1922. He attended UW-Oshkosh for undergrad schooling, during this time he enlisted in the US Air Force. When the war was over he returned to Oshkosh and met the love of his life, Betty Patch. Thurman obtained his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On June 17, 1950 he and Betty were married. Throughout his working career he taught at West Junior High in Madison and was the Director of the Museum of the State Historical Society until his retirement in 1984. Thurman was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Madison as well as a longtime member of Kiwanis and Rotary. Later in life he enjoyed bowling and spending time at their cottage. Thurman, along with his loving wife made the most of their retirement by traveling extensively and spending time with family and friends.Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Betty; daughter, Beth (Jim) Fox-Warnecke; grandchildren, Audrey and Andy; great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Thurman.Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4100 Nakoma Rd., Madison with Pastor Scott Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Redlin Funeral Home of Baraboo is assisting the family.
