Mary H. Schenkat


Mary H. Schenkat, age 92, of Baraboo and Jefferson, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Mary was born January 27, 1925 on the family farm near Benton, WI to Henry and Gertrude (Legler) Hoppenjan. She married Evan F. Schenkat May 15, 1951 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Benton. She and Evan farmed in the North Freedom area for ten years after Evan's discharge from the US Navy. They later moved to Jefferson, WI in 1964. Mary is survived by her five children; Evan (Donna) Schenkat, Jr. of Ballwin, MO; Bonnie (Cory) Carpenter of Bellville, WI; Ann (Don) Andringa of Portage, WI; Mark (Sarah) Schenkat of Baraboo, WI and Jean (Steve) Veum, Iron Mountain, MI; five grandsons, Matthew (Krista) and Mitchell Andringa, Daniel Schenkat, Caleb (Alodia) and Mason (Kelsey) Veum; three granddaughters, Melissa (Sergey) Tsvirko, Amanda (Schenkat) Adams, Elizabeth Schenkat; four great-grandchildren, Zoey and Zayda Andringa, Torstein Veum and Olivia Tsvirko; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters-in-law Bernard (Ramona) Hoppenjan, Francis (Jane) Hoppenjan, sisters Gertrude (Raymond) McCabe and Marguerite Hoppenjan, and a granddaughter-in-law, Jessie Andringa. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Redlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in private at the Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom following the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mary in a special way may direct memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, WI or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo, WI or to St. Clare Meadows Care Center, Baraboo, WI. The family wishes to extend our appreciation and admiration to all of the staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. The loving, tender, wonderful and compassionate care from the nursing staff will forever hold a special place in the family's heart.
