Julia G. Halweg

Julia G. Halweg, age 94 of Baraboo, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at Meadow View Assisted Living. She was born on Feb. 16, 1923 in Kendallville, Iowa. Her parents, George and Gusta (Moe) Winnaberg, brought Julia to holy baptism and confirmation at an early age. She was united in marriage to Robert Halweg on May 12, 1945 at the Christ Lutheran Church Parsonage in Greenfield Township by Rev. G. E. Gerth, where she remained a member and belonged to the church's ladies aid. Julia and her husband lived and farmed in the Merrimac area for 30 years. In 1975 they left the farm and moved to Baraboo where they built a new home. In 2001 they transferred their church membership to St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Julia had been an active member of the Sauk County Homemakers Club and loved flowers, gardening and sewing. Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Helen Wick of Baraboo and Muriel Halweg of Merrimac; nieces, nephews and many friends. Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert; her parents; her brother, Elvin Winnaberg of Cresco, Iowa; her sister, Marie Winnaberg, Cresco, Iowa ; and her brothers-in-law, Donald Halweg of Merrimac and Clarence Wick of Baraboo. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 4, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Nick Maglietto officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church and Agrace HospiceCare in Baraboo.
