Geraldine Fern Knapton

Geraldine Fern Knapton, age 84 of Greenwood, formerly of Baraboo, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at House of the Dove in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Geraldine, daughter of Ernest and Virginia (Knapp) Schueman was born April 27, 1933, in Greenfield, Monroe County, Wisconsin. Geraldine also recently lived for a short time at Well's Nature View of Marshfield. As a young lady, she worked in Madison as a housekeeper for Wisconsin State Judge and Mrs. M. Rosenberry, and Dr. and Mrs. Tweeten. She then moved to Baraboo and worked as a housekeeper until her marriage to Daniel Willard Knapton on June 3, 1950, at Grace Lutheran Church in Alma Center, Jackson County, Wisconsin. Together, Geraldine and Daniel owned and operated their own farm near Baraboo for 66 years. Working side-by-side, they strove for success, and proudly achieved (from Wisconsin Dairies) 6 top quality milk awards and awards of excellence for their quality of milk production between 1985 and 1991. The awards reflect the best production of farms in the tri-state area. After Daniel's passing, she found employment with Saint Claire Children's Center and housekeeping for various Baraboo residents. She later worked in the Bakery Department at Darrow's Supermarket and as a baker at Ski-Hi Fruit Farm. She more recently served as a cook at Baraboo South and West Elementary Schools, where she enjoyed conversing with the children and adults during lunch times. Geraldine was most proud of finally receiving her GED at age 69. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Baraboo, was a member of the Owls Club, Ladies Aide, volunteered at the Circus World Museum, and helped with the Sauk County ADRC mailings. Geraldine was a caretaker - not only of her husband, Daniel, in his later years, but also of her many gardens, kittens, and farm animals. She always wanted to be available to help her family. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Roger) Schwarze; grandson, Daniel J. Winch; great-granddaughter, Joslyn Winch; siblings: John (Bonnie) Schueman, Doris Lloyd, and Arlene Schuckhart; sister-in-law, Laverne Schueman, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
