Doris Pollard Wichern


Doris Pollard Wichern (nee Brown), 96 years old, of Baraboo, was born to eternal life Sept. 21, 2017 at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living after a brief illness.She was born June 3, 1921 in Shennington, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Lucille Brown. In 1941 she married James B. Pollard in Kendall, Wisconsin with whom she raised a family and lived for 47 years until his death in 1989.During the next ten years, she traveled, volunteered at several places including The Circus World Museum, St. Clare Hospital and St. Clare Meadows. She enjoyed the company of friends and also cared for her mother who lived to be 105 years old.While volunteering at St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo she met a fellow volunteer named Earl Wichern and they married on Sept. 20, 1999.Doris has been a longtime resident of Baraboo, arriving with her family shortly after her husband returned from World War II.She graduated from Kendall, Wisconsin High School in 1939 as Salutatorian and attended a business college in Elgin, Illinois. She worked in various secretarial capacities in Baraboo for many years.She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, participating in several different organizations over the years. Until last year she was an active member of Curves and still volunteered at St. Clare Meadows. She was also an avid reader.She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Lucille Brown, brothers Stanley and Harris Brown and husband James B. Pollard.Doris is survived by her husband of 18 years, Earl Wichern and his daughter, Sandi Wichern and Doris's children, James S. Pollard (Judy), Mary D. Perz (Thomas) and Thomas W. Pollard (Lila), 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends.The family is so grateful for the ultimate in care received from Dr. Stuart Hannah, the entire loving staff at Meadow Ridge and Home Health United Hospice.In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church.Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 300 2nd St., Baraboo, WI 53913 at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 with Father Jay Poster officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church before the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
