David William Baumgarten

David William Baumgarten, 73, of North Freedom, died on August 3, 2017. And because his savior Jesus Christ conquered death, he was welcomed into eternal life on that very day. We know, as Jesus promised Mary, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." He was born to Martin and Clara Baumgarten on September 5, 1943, in Town of Freedom, Sauk County, Wisconsin, who baptized him in Christ on September 26. He was confirmed in the faith in 1957 at St John Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. David graduated from Webb High School, Reedsburg, in 1961. On August 17, 1968, he married Carol Behn at St. Peter's, Loganville. Carol and David were blessed with son, Jeff. He lived the life of a servant, walking in the step of his Lord, serving his family, his neighbors, and his nation. He served his nation in the Army National Guard, as a husband and parent, in countless musical endeavors, and as a leader in his church and community. In his work he was conscientious, dedicated and loyal. Dave could talk to anyone, whether a friend, customer, or stranger, and make them feel comfortable. He lived by example, and his example will stay with us always. "For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." (Psalm 100:5) He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Lois Strobel, Lyle Baumgarten, and Charlene Lauersdorf, brother-in-law Richard Strobel, sister-in-law Lorna Baumgarten, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Carol; son Jeff, his wife Rebecca and children Liam, Koen and Lilah; brother-in-law Bill (Tricia) Behn; brother-in-law Carl (Kay) Behn; brother-in-law Richard Lauersdorf; Aunt Violet Vinz; Uncle Melvin Baumgarten; aunt Mary Ellen Baumgarten; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, church families and many friends and neighbors, so many of whom have given their support during this sad time Funeral services for David Baumgarten will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Springs with Rev. David Karow officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo, and again on Monday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name can be made to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
