David S. Nancarrow


David Snowdon Nancarrow passed away on May 31, 2017 at the age of 90.Dave was born Sept. 18, 1926 in Houghton, Michigan and was the son of C. Edward and Essie Nancarrow. He was a graduate of Houghton High School (receiving his diploma while serving in WWII). He is also a graduate of Michigan Technical University with a degree in Civil Engineering.Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, and served in North Africa as an Aviation Ordnanceman. Dave married Shirley Glanville in June, 1950 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton, MI. Dave and Shirley raised three girls; Chris and Cindy, both born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Lori, born in Pennsylvania. They were blessed with 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many wonderful lifelong friends.Dave started his professional career in sales with Atlas Powder Company in Dollar Bay, MI. He was transferred to Missouri for a short time, and then back home to Michigan. Dave and family later accepted a transfer to Tamaqua, PA where he worked for 10 years. In August of 1971, Dave left Atlas and accepted a position with Olin Industries at the Badger Army Ammunitions Plant located between Baraboo and Prairie du Sac. He held many positions with Olin; the last being plant engineer until his retirement in 1990.After retirement, Dave and Shirley traveled often. They spent many winters in Port Aransas, TX. They were fortunate to be able to spend time traveling in Europe with Dave's sister, Marge Conrad, where they connected with Nancarrow and Snowdon relatives. They also traveled to Mexico with family, and Greece with friends.Dave and Shirley were both very active in their faith at Trinity Episcopal Church, Baraboo. Dave was a Deacon, and they were both honored to serve on the Vestry and many other boards and committees over the years.Dave is survived by his daughters, Chris Steigerwalt of Urbandale, Iowa, Cindy (Terry) Steuber of Prairie du Sac, and Lori (Ron) DeMars of Wisconsin Dells. He leaves three grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Degard of Valencia, CA, David DeMars of Baraboo and Brianne (Lucas Tourdot) of Reedsburg. In addition, they have four wonderful great-grandchildren, Addison and Brady Degard and Trinity and Mae Tourdot.Dave is further survived by his sister, Marge Conrad of Texas; brother, Robert (Betty) Nancarrow of Florida; and sister-in-law, Gail Rheaume of Michigan. He is further survived by several special nieces, nephews and cousins.Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; and many special friends.Funeral Services for David Nancarrow will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Father David Mowers officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Military rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard at the church following the service. A luncheon will be served afterwards. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
