Bertha Dittberner


Bertha Dittberner of Baraboo was born Feb. 22, 1919, the daughter of Vernon and Tina (Benson) Higbie in Eagle, WI. Bertha was a part of a large and very close family of 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Most lived near to each other all of their lives. She was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.Bertha married Melvin Dittberner on Feb. 16, 1938. They spent their entire lives together in the Baraboo/Merrimac WI area. Melvin farmed and worked for the Farmers Union Coop for many years. Bertha was a homemaker and worked at MacCarthur's Hammock Factory. They raised 2 daughters and were blessed with 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Bertha was an amazing cook, known especially for her wonderful pies. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Merrimac, WI. She was an active member of the church's Women's Group and Bible Study group for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo and continued cooking, canning vegetables and making jams well into her golden years.She is survived by daughters, Linda (Mike) Bessler and Mary (Larry) Wendland; grandchildren, Steve (Marta) Bessler, Cindy (Bryce) Molitor and Jeff (Stacie) Wendland; and great-grandchildren, Dexter Molitor and twins, Jaxson and Cooper Wendland, also nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin and sisters, Lucille Pollack, Lillian Mudgett, Margaret Mudgett, Toni Peters, Ruth Struebing and by her twin sister and best friend, Martha Thompson; and brothers Ben and Ed Higbie.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merrimac with Pastor John Ruppenthal officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Shanks Cemetery on Tuesday. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family. She will be dearly missed and long remembered. Thanks be to God for the gift of her.
