Katherine Gonzagowski


Katherine S. Gonzagowski, 75, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.Katherine was born in Mauston on July 29, 1941. Her parents were Joseph and Myrtle Gonzagowski who preceded her in death. She spent most of her adult life in Madison where she worked for 40-plus years as a licensed practical nurse at the Central Wisconsin Center for the developmentally disabled. Following the death of her sister-in-law Patricia (Williams) Gonzagowski, she moved to Baraboo to be with her brother. They spent seven winters as snowbirds in Mesa before moving there in May of 2016. Katherine was very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary holding offices at the local, state and national level. In 1989 she was installed as the national grand madam president and spent 12 months visiting Aeries in Canada and the United States. She was also an avid sports fan and loved watching her Badgers, Brewers and Packers. She was a charter member of the Madison Packer Backers. In her 20s she played on a traveling fast pitch softball team for Red Dot Foods. She played in many tournaments in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. She loved to travel and spend time in Europe, Canada, Mexico and all 50 states. She also went on many cruises.She is survived by her brother, Bruce Gonzagowski, of Mesa, Arizona; and many close friends and relatives.Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo with Father Chris Gernetzke officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of mass at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Monona at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
