Ida Mae Erickson


Ida Mae Erickson, age 100, of Waunakee, formerly of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Sylvan Crossings in Waunakee. Ida Mae, daughter of John and Esther (Alexander) Accola was born May 30, 1916 in Merrimac. She married Chester B. Schluter on Valentine's Day 1939, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1981. She was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church (now Emanuel United Methodist Church) in Baraboo until she moved to Waunakee and joined Crossroads United Methodist Church. She worked for Reinkings and Woolworth in Baraboo. Ida Mae later married Emil Erickson (on May 6, 1995), who also preceded her in death (October 2, 2006).Survivors include her sister, Agnes Ropers; daughter, Sandra (John) Ward; daughter-in-law, Joan Schluter; four grandchildren, Terry (Kym) Schluter, Kathy (John) Pope, Bryant (Joanne) Ward and Brooke Ward, as well as nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.She was also preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Chester Schluter and Emil Erickson; her sister, Esther Griffin; brother, Ivan Accola, and her son, Lorin Schluter.Ida Mae was a light to those who knew her. Family was at the core of who she was, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, gratitude, unending dignity and strength of character. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. A springtime burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the MS Society.
