Bernard Statz


On Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 the Lord released Bernard "Bernie" Statz from his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69 with his wife and children by his side. Bernard, son of Henry "Hank" and Kathryn (Kabele) Statz was born Oct. 2, 1947. Bernie was drafted into the US Army and served in the Vietnam War in 1969 with the infantry division. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended UW-Platteville and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. On Aug. 23, 1986 he was united in marriage to Linda Gilding. After working for the State Patrol, Bernie joined the Sauk County Sheriff's Department on July, 15, 1978. After over 25 years of law enforcement employment, he retired as Captain of the Sauk County Sheriff's Department on July 31, 2001. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors with his dog. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.Survivors include his loving wife, Linda; children, Angela (Timothy) Wyer and Aaron (Megan) Statz; grandchildren, Aidan, Logan, and Avryana; siblings, Ellie Nolden, and Ed (Sharon) Statz; nieces, nephews, other relatives, as well as Gilding families and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at 12 noon at Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo with Pastor Jonathan Tipton officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted following the service by the Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 987.The family would like to extend a special thank you UW Hospital Doctors and staff for the exceptional care and support shown to Bernie and his family.
