Lewis M. Peterson


Lewis M. Peterson, age 95 of Baraboo, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 at his home at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living. He was born Aug. 7, 1921, the son of Ethel and Marvin Peterson. He was proud to serve his country during World War II as an infantryman in General George Patton's army during the Battle of the Bulge. He was highly decorated for his bravery with many medals including the coveted "Bronze Star". In 2015, he wrote a book about his experiences during the war entitled "Memoirs Of My Military Service".After returning home from the war, Lewis worked as a bricklayer and mason until his retirement. He served for many years as both the Commander of the Baraboo chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and President of the local Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasters Union.Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Peterson and his sister, Phyllis (Neal) Neinast.He is survived by Violet Peterson, his wife of 70 years; 5 children, Linda (Dennis) Schneller, Sue (James) Polnow, Marvin Peterson, LuAnn (Donald) Scott, and Richard Peterson; 10 grandchildren, Tim (Tiffany) Schneller, Lucas (Laura) Schneller, Jennifer (Andrew) Shea, Stephanie Accardo, Rebecca Grant, Sam Peterson, Kelly Peterson, Emily (Jeff) Barnacle, Sarah (David) Larson, and Buddy Schultz; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Norma (Wallace) Clavadatscher, loving nieces and nephews, and an abundance of friends.Visitation will be held on Friday, at 12, NOON at Redlin Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tom Dunbar officiating. The burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo where military rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. A time of fellowship will be held after the burial at the American Legion Hall in Baraboo.The family of Lewis Peterson would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Meadow Ridge Assisted Living for their compassion and tender care of our father.
