Lois Mangin

SOLACEGlazed cities with jewel box lights,And the quiet swish of rain-splashed wheels. Will the pelter of rain, the pelter of time sooth your heart?Bring out the song that lies so dormant? by Lois J. Mangin At eighty-five years old, Lois passed away peacefully in the arms of her nurse Sarah, at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living in Baraboo, early Sunday morning, October 2, 2016. The cause of death was congestive heart failure. Lois and her family are most grateful for the attentive and loving care she received from Hospice Care and Meadow Ridge during her last days. Born in 1931, Lois lived in the family home in Allouez / Green Bay, WI for most of her life. She moved recently, to the Meadow Ridge Assisted Living in Baraboo, WI to be near to her younger sister and her family. She was born in Green Bay to Florence (LaPlant) and David Mangin. As a twelve-year-old, she loved roller skating down the hill in her neighborhood on Clay Street, and also, caring for her new baby sister, Janet. About that time, she began to write poetry. Even during these recent days, she turned to rhyming words that made her smile as she dozed. Lois attended St. Joseph Cathedral Elementary School, and St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay. Then to everyone's surprise, took a newspaper job in Butte, Montana. Years later, she worked in Providence, Rhode Island, after which she returned to Green Bay to work for the Press Gazette, retiring at sixty-five years of age.Horseback riding in Montana, skiing, biking, hiking, gardening, and knitting warm caps and mittens for the homeless are some of her past and recent endeavors. She very much appreciated the thoughtfulness of her near-neighbors in Green Bay, and was most thankful for the friendship and home-help of Paulette, to whom she felt especially close.A special heart-felt thank you, for the sweet thoughtfulness and generous support of her niece, Wendy Van Dinter, Blackhawk, and grand-nephews, Cody Van Dinter of Sauk City, and Joshua Van Dinter of Columbus. Lois Mangin is survived by her sister, Janet and brother-in-law, Jim Nidy, of North Freedom, WI, her brother and sister-in-law, David and Donna Mangin, her nephew, Jason Van Dinter, and his daughter and son, Delaney and Joshua. On Wednesday, October 5, Lois was laid to rest next to her parents in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery, Green Bay as a gentle rain peltered down.
