Louis P. Hellewell


Louis P. Hellewell, age 88 of Baraboo, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at Artisan in Baraboo. Louis, son of Joseph and Etta (Patterson) Hellewell was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Evanston, Wyoming.He was a graduate of Evanston High School. Upon completion of high school he enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and proudly served until he was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class in January of 1947. Louis met Lorraine Bergren at the University of Wyoming and they were united in marriage on Oct. 20, 1947. Louis then furthered his education at the University of Wyoming; graduating with the class of 1952. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad, FMC and Olin Corporation. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a Lions Club member for over 63 years and an Elk Member. In his free time he enjoyed golfing, traveling the world with Lorraine, watching his children participate in activities, concerts and sports. In his younger years he liked trout fishing, fly tying, hunting in Wyoming, and teaching rifle at Boy Scout Camp.He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lorraine of Baraboo; children, Joseph Hellewell III of Bailey, CO, Louis (Kathy) Hellewell of Spring, TX, Judith (Peter) McDonald of Madison, Nancy (Tim) Blum of Baraboo and Darlene (Clark) Nielsen of Marrietta, GA; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph ( Frances) Hellewell II; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Winston) Barber; son, John Hellewell and grandson, Joshua Blum.Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Baraboo with Bishop Eric Justice officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 at Redlin Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
