Hildegarde Gertrude Geyman


Hildegarde Gertrude Geyman, 71 of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, WI. Hilde was born on August 3,1945 to Reinhold and Mathilda (Schulte) Hartmann in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her childhood in Chicago before the family moved to Minnesota where she graduated from Blue Earth High in 1963. She began her undergraduate studies at the College of St. Theresa in Winona, Minnesota before attending the University of Minnesota where she graduated with distinction from the school of Physical Therapy in 1968. Hilde began her career working at the Fairfield Hospital in Minneapolis before other stops at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, Waukesha Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin, and then working for over 20 years in Baraboo for Restorative Care Associates at St. Clare Meadows. She finally retired after working for Home Health United in 2005, but continued to keep her professional relationships strong with her monthly meetings of the "PT Cruisers" and "M & Ms". While in college she met Richard E. Geyman, a native of Rock Springs while working in Wisconsin Dells during the summer of 1964. They were married in Blue Earth, Minnesota in 1968 and lived briefly in Menomonie, Wisconsin before Richard's military service took them to Biloxi, Mississippi. After surviving Hurricane Camille in 1969, they returned to Wisconsin and lived in Pewaukee where her two children Heather (1971) and Jon (1973) were born. After four years her family moved to the Lake Delton and Baraboo area where she spent the rest of her life.Besides Hildegarde's family and career, she lived a life that was full of many passions. Her love of travel with her family took her across the United States and to Germany. She and Richard were fond of searching out rails to trails bike trips across the Midwest throughout their retirement. In addition, trips to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage created many fond memories with close friends. At home she was a passionate gardener who took great pride in her flowers and vegetables. Hilde took great joy in photography and art, often taking pictures of family functions and nature scenes where her strong eye for detail and composition resulted in many images that will be treasured by friends and family. She attended St. Paul's Church (ELCA) in Baraboo, where she was active in the choir, church library, and bible study. Through St. Paul she developed and enjoyed enduring friendships that often resulted in memorable camping trips and costume parties. Over the past few years she took a special interest in reading, painting, and spending time with her grandchild, Calvin. Hildegarde will be remembered for her pursuit of learning, support of her children, dedication to her career, and a 48 year marriage to the man she loved and laughed with so much. Even when faced with extreme adversity she continued to have a positive and inspirational outlook on life while continuing to leave a legacy of doing the right thing for her friends and family. Hilde was preceded in death by her parents, Rienhold and Mathilda, and her brother Carl. She is survived by her husband, Richard Geyman; daughter, Heather Geyman of Baraboo; son, Jon Geyman (Kristina) and grandson, Calvin of Freedom, WI. Brothers, Richard (Sarah) Hartmann of St. Louis Park, MN, Fred (Dina) Hartmann of Valencia, CA and sisters, Geraldine Hartmann of White Bear Lake, MN and Theresa Hartman of Glendale, AZ.Visitation will be at Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo on Thursday, September 1st, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 at 11:00 am. and visitation will take place prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be held at Rock Springs Cemetery on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.Hilde would like to acknowledge the many healthcare workers at UW Hospitals, Home Health United, and St. Mary's / Dean. In lieu of flowers Hildegarde requested donations be made to Doctors Without Borders, an environmental cause of your choice, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
