Ivan Kenneth Accola


Ivan Kenneth Accola, age 97 of Baraboo passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at St. Clare Meadows. Ivan, son of John and Esther (Alexander) Accola was born Aug. 11, 1919 in Prairie du Sac. On Feb. 10, 1942 he entered and served in WWII and earned numerous medals including the Bronze Star. In Sept. of 1945 he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. On Jan. 20, 1951 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Platt at Evangelical United Brethern Church where they remained lifetime members. Gertrude preceded Ivan in death on May 17, 2013. He was a building contractor for over 45 years. Ivan owned and operated Aire Visa Motel in Lake Delton for 14 years and other small businesses. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 26, Charter Member of VFW 987 and the 40 et 8; and achieved commander of various posts. He was a member of the Lake Delton Businessmen and was a Lions Club member.He is survived by his children, Carol (Len) Wagner of Baraboo, Ken (Barb) Accola of DeForest and Susie (Dwain) Robb of Murphy, Texas; nine grandchildren, Lori (Devin) Atkinson, Cristy Krueger, Tina (C.J.) Edwards, Andrew Accola, Shawn (Nicole) Robb, Kimberly (David) Chase, Noah (Danielle) Robb, Elijah (Kori) Robb and Caleb Robb; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Ropers and Ida Mae Erickson as well as other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude; and his sister, Esther Griffin.Memorial Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emanuel United Methodist Church or St. Clare Meadows. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
