James "Jim" Lee Kern


James "Jim" Lee Kern, 82 of Baraboo passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at St. Clare Hospital. Jim was born Dec. 28, 1933 in Stanberry, Missouri to Edward Leo and Maggie Madelaine (Sorenson) Kern. He graduated from Stanberry High School in 1951. Jim moved to Baraboo in February of 1967 and was employed by Badger Army Ammunition Plant. He later worked at Industrial Coils in Baraboo. James was married to Dorothy Irene Hatcher on Sept. 13, 1952. They had three children, Linda (Robert) Belter of Baraboo, Teresa (Richard) Martinez of Duluth, Georgia and Michael (Jan) Kern of Dallas, Georgia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jeremy Belter, Jason Belter, Angela (Wade) Valley and Jeffrey (Danielle) Belter; and three great-granddaughters, Zeva Valley, Delilah and Cecelia Belter, all of Baraboo; two step-grandsons, Christopher (Rebekah) Shouse of Dallas, Georgia and Stephen Shouse of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and one step-great-granddaughter, Elora Shouse of Dallas, Georgia. Also his brother, Robert (Judy) of St. George, Utah and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lawrence and his former wife, Dorothy Kern. Per James' request, there will be no funeral services. The family wants to thank the staff at Greenbriar and the residents for their care and support. Also Hospice and Home Health United and especially Dr. Dubray and the staff on 2 West at St. Clare Hospital. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
