William "Bill" Shanks
William "Bill" Shanks, age 89 of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Oak Park Place with his family by his side. William, son of W. Melvin and Helen (Messer) Shanks was born Feb. 3, 1927 in Caledonia Township. He graduated from Portage High School. On March 22, 1947 he was united in marriage to Virginia Fuller at St. John's Lutheran Church in Portage. Bill was employed by Sauk County Highway Department for over 25 years. Bill was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia; children, Connie Shanks, Dennis (Julie) Shanks, Ron (Cheryl) Shanks; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Merlin (Eunice) Shanks as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Leon; son, William, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kathy; grandson, Tony; and great-grandson, Will.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Shanks Cemetery in Caledonia Township. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John's Media Fund or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Oak Park Place and Agrace Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Bill. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
