Robert L. Smith


Robert "Bob" L. Smith, 76, of Baraboo passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 21, 1939 to Marvin and Susan (Meyer) Smith in Beaver Dam. Robert was united in marriage to Catherine A. Schlough on October 12, 1974 at Bringham Park in Mt. Horeb. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Lawrence University in 1961, and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was a teacher for 35 years, he eventually retired in 2000 from Marshall High School after nearly 20 years. He also spent many years as a high school coach. After retiring from teaching Bob started driving school bus which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an avid Packer fan, and collector of sports memorabilia. He will be remembered as a garage sale entrepreneur. Above all his family was the most important part of his life, especially his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Catherine; his children, Robert (Theresa) Smith, Laura (Dan Geffert) Mahaney, and Linda (Jeff) Vetor; eight grandchildren, Heather (Reid) Broughton, Hollie (Justin) Bauer, Megan (Jake) Bell, Tayt Rasmussen, Terance Teresinski, and Benjamin, Ayden, and Brynn Smith; and a great-grandchild expected in September. He is further survived by his siblings, Steven Smith and Dinah Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per his wishes a private ceremony was held.
