LaVerne "Tom" Luck


LaVerne (Tom) Luck, 93, passed away February 8, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Madison after a very short illness. He was born February 17, 1922 in the Town of Sumpter to Florian and Ida (Heinz) Luck. He was united in marriage to Glenyce Hill on June 1, 1946 in Baraboo. He was raised on the farm and graduated from Prairie du Sac High School. He worked several jobs before serving his country in World War II where he drove and repaired tanks overseas. He returned from the war and operated several service stations in the area. He then purchased and started Berning Motors with partner Mike Berning. He ran the car business for 40 years. He enjoyed deer hunting in northern Wisconsin with his friends. He also liked spending time at his cabin on the lake, fishing and camping in the Minocqua area after his retirement. His coffee clutch time at the Coffee Bean was a big part of his life along with a new car in his garage. He loved watching all the wildlife in his back yard.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenyce; sister, Marguerite Mielke; brother, Lyle Luck; an infant sister; brother-in-law, Harold Mielke; sister-in-law, Phyllis Luck; sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Darlene Hill; and sister-in-law, Bev Hehenberger.He is survived by his brother-in-law John Hehenberger, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and friends.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Marianne Cotter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 987. The Family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Tom's name to the VFW Post 987, 1210 9th Street, Baraboo, Wisconsin 53913. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
