Mark Reitz


Mark Reitz, age 57, of Baraboo passed away peacefully on December 13, 2015 surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with leukemia. He was born on February 27, 1958 to Robert and Mildred Reitz in Edgerton. He was united in marriage to Sharyl Anderson on June 27, 1981 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Edgerton.Mark graduated from Edgerton High School in 1976 where he excelled at sports, academics, and music. He received the prestigious John Phillips Sousa Award. He went on to wrestle at Marquette University where he received his undergraduate degree in economics and political science. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate at Marquette Law School in 1983. Mark practiced law in Edgerton from 1983 to 1986 after which he relocated to Baraboo and joined the Quale-Hartmann Law Firm. In 2005 he became the Baraboo City Attorney.Mark participated in many volunteer organizations such as Jaycee's, Lions Club, Optimist Club, board member for the Historical Society, board member of Kid's Ranch, and the Baraboo Theatre Guild assisting in the box office for many years. Through these organizations he formed many meaningful friendships. One of his greatest pleasures was serving as a mock trial coach for the Baraboo Mock Trial Team. Other hobbies and interest include Civil War reenacting, geocaching, disc golfing, playing tuba in the community band, traveling, and hiking at Devil's Lake. He enjoyed cooking and especially prided himself as a chili connoisseur, competing in chili cooking festivals. He was also an avid Brewer and Packers fan.Mark is survived by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Monica Williams of Janesville and Jacqueline of Rochester, MN; two grandchildren, Dante and Sadie Williams; two brothers, Jeffrey (Angie Nemanic) Reitz of Milwaukee and Thomas (Tammy) Reitz of Fort Atkinson; nephews, Daniel, Maxwell, Hayden, Matthew, Eric, and John; nieces, Elizabeth, Krista, Lisa, Tasha, Maia, and Allison. He is further survived by many other friends and family. He is also survived by Tanner, his golden retriever; his faithful, furry companion. Mark was preceded by his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 18, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home as well as on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Huen, Dr. Meier, Dr. Hill, and Dr. Hamburg of Baraboo and Dr. Patnaik with Mayo Clinic for their exceptional care, and to the compassionate nurses in the ICU and medical surgical units of St. Clare Hospital and Mayo Clinic. Mark will be remembered for his sense of fairness, extensive knowledge, kind heartedness, helpful spirit, and witty sense of humor. To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...
