Maurice L. Moyer


Maurice L. Moyer died at St. Clare Hospital on November 30, 2015 at the age of 95. He was born near Washington Court House, Ohio to H.P. and Elsie (Hinson) Moyer. Maurice graduated from Washington High School in 1938 and attended Ohio State University. He farmed the family farm before entering the service in 1944. Maurice served in the European Theater with the 656th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 9th Armored Division. He was in the "Battle of the Rhine" and "Campaign of Germany". He was united in marriage to Helen Crampton on July 15, 1945 in Washington Court House, Ohio. Maurice worked for Producers Livestock Co-op Association, Columbus, Ohio for 18 years. He moved to Baraboo in 1963, where he was employed by Equity Co-op Livestock Association for 19 years until his retirement in 1982. Maurice was a 50 year member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #139 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the last charter member of the Baraboo Kiwanis Golden K, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Baraboo. Maurice is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Dianna Burns of Baraboo; two grandsons, Jayson Moyer of Baraboo and Jesse Burns of Lake Delton; two nieces, Vivienne (Mark) Adair of Vermont and Carole Sue Daugherty of Ohio; one nephew, Robert P. Moyer of North Carolina and their families; as well as cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert W. (Juanita) Moyer and Harold (Lana) Moyer; and his parents-in-law. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Marianne Cotter officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at 4 PM at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veteran's Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Baraboo or a charity of your choice. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
