Stuart Arthur Schlender


Stuart Arthur Schlender, age 92 of Baraboo died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Stuart, son of Fred and Helen (Jahn) Schlender was born on May 11, 1923 in Baraboo. He attended Ikey Elementary School and graduated from Baraboo High School. On March 29, 1946 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Breneman in San Francisco. Stuart proudly served his country in the US Navy for 2 years before being honorably discharged. Throughout his working career he farmed, worked on an apple orchard and served as Fire Warden. He was a longtime member of Emanuel United Methodist Church. Stuart managed Darrows/LaMasney Construction men's softball team for 20 years in Portage. He had a passion for fishing and hunting that he enjoyed right up to this past year. His shots were a little better and the fishes' shoulders a little bigger in his joking way. Then he would celebrate to everyone discreetly with his BBB. In his free time he enjoyed softball, baseball, and playing cards. Besides his unselfish devotion to his wife and children he was an honorable and respected friend to everyone he met. Stuart had a way with his crafty sense of humor; he was able to make anyone laugh while never offending them. He had a special way to bring a smile to the room.Survivors include his loving wife of 69 wonderful years, Elizabeth of Baraboo; children, Corby (Vera) Schlender, Craig (Elizabeth) Schlender, Clark (Diane) Schlender, Stephanee (Don) Flentje all of Baraboo and Jeffrey Schlender of North Freedom. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Schaitel of Baraboo, Lucille Outhouse of Oregon; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill; brothers-in-law, Ray Schaitel and Perry Outhouse; as well as sisters-in-law, Beverly Paske and Doris Schlender.Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June, 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard at the church.The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the health care providers that crowned, Stuart, as their favorite; for all of their wonderful, loving care.
