Edward J. Tourdot


Edward "Ed" Tourdot, age 88 of West Baraboo passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2015 at home with his wife, Patricia at his side. Ed, son of August and Florence (Kaldenberg) Tourdot was born March 19, 1927 in Reedsburg. He graduated from Reedsburg High School. Following high school he was drafted into the United States Army. During his time in the service he served in Italy and was honorably discharged on Feb. 1, 1947. While at a dance at the Eagles Club he met the love of his life, Patricia Phelps. On Sept. 10, 1947 they were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He worked as a carpenter and foreman for the Gardner-Bell Construction Company. He then took a job at Badger Army Ammunition Plant and worked his way up from carpenter to maintenance superintendent and retired after 32 years of employment. Ed was very involved and held many local and state offices for the following organizations: Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul, Toast Masters, Elk's Club, Boy Scouts, and St. Joseph's Catholic Parish. He worked with Monsignor Gray as a founding father of Camp Gray Youth Camp. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bee keeping, card playing, ginseng hunting, sports and bowling with his children, grandchildren and friends. In his last days he was able to visit the cabin at the farm. Above all these things, Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia of West Baraboo; children, Dennis (Holly) Tourdot of Madison, Larry (Michelle) Tourdot of Baraboo, Gwen (Jeff) Kingston of Madison, David (Patty Russell) Tourdot of Baraboo, Linda (Mike 8/14/06) (Todd Meyer) Porter of Baraboo and Greg (Mary Alice) Tourdot of Lake Zurich, Ill.; grandchildren, Heather (KC) Nilsen, William (Jen) Tourdot, Eric (Carli) Tourdot, Casey (Jenna) Rinehart, Allison (Jon) Tourdot, Nik (fiancee, Alicia) Tourdot, E. Tyler (fiancee, Chloe) Tourdot, Carrie Kingston, Thaddeus Kingston, Shelly (Tom) Keller, Chad Tourdot, Ian (Angie) Porter, Brad (Tammy) Porter, Josh Porter, Melinda (Adam) Moe, Mary Beth (Joe) Ramono, Emily (fiance, Jacob) Tourdot; great-grandchildren, Bella, Sophia and Lily Nilsen, Ellie and August Tourdot, Evelyn and Thomas Tourdot, Maevy and Dylan Rinehart, Manny Kingston, Morgan and Alyssa Bittner, Allen and Alyssa Keller, Sierra Tourdot, McKenna Mel and Ava Porter, and Hadley Porter. He is further survived by his siblings, Clara "Ruth" Lawinger, Jeanette Stieve, Florence (Wallace, Jr.) Bradley, Evelyn (Ed) Bulin, Joe (Mary Lou) Tourdot and Bob (Donna) Tourdot; sisters-in-law, Nelda Phelps, Darlene Decker, LaVon Puttkamer; and brothers-in-law, Bob Phelps and John Wegner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, dozens of cousins, other relatives and friends.Ed was preceded in death by his parents, August and Florence; in-laws, Frank Phelps and Edna Miller; son-in-law, Mike Porter; daughter-in-law, Kris Tourdot; siblings, George (Virginia) Tourdot, Mary (Don) Gallagher, Helen (Francis) Kaul, Charlie (Mary) Tourdot, and Anna Wegner; sisters-in-law, Lenore Phelps, Rosetta (Charles, Sr.) Lyke, Charlotte Phelps and Katherine (Phelps) Stein; brothers-in-law, Harvey Stieve, Don Lawinger, Arthur Puttkamer, Red Miller, Carol Decker, Clinton Phelps and Franklin Phelps.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Endowment Fund or St. Vincent de Paul.
