Sylvia D. King


Sylvia D. King, age 84, of Deforest passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the St. Clare Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on January 20, 1931, in North Freedom to Herman and Agnes (Baumgarten) Licht. She was united in marriage in 1960 to Leonard King in Madison.She attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Reedsburg High School. After spending a substantial amount of time working for AAA Insurance in Madison, she moved on to the banking industry where she was employed by Truax Credit Union, in Madison, for a long period of time. Sylvia loved flowers, gardening, dogs and animals of all kinds. She also had an affinity for all birds. Sylvia also loved reading books of all kinds. Finally, Sylvia never missed an opportunity to shop, and she never found a store she didn't love!Sylvia is survived by her sister, Althea (Burdell) Trow; sisters-in-law, Ruth Licht, Helen Liska, Leona Rosol, Evelyn Sanrope, and Donna King; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; siblings, Marvin Licht, Norman Licht, Arloween Oyan, and Gertrude (Merlyne) Pieper; brothers-in-law, Clarence King, Francis (Rosemary) King, Lyle Liska, and Raymond Sanrope. She was also preceded in death by several nephews.A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Rio Redeemer Lutheran Church, 610 Lincoln Ave, Rio, with Pastor Dan Odden officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be held following services at the Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. Memorials may be made to the Rio Redeemer Lutheran Church.The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful staff at the St. Clare Hospital, St. Clare Meadows, and Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton for their loving care and compassion.
