Nancy A. Vodak


      Nancy Ann (Ready) Vodak of North Freedom, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo. Nancy was born the daughter of Francis and Irma (Braatz) Ready on February 23, 1931 in Watertown. She grew up in Baraboo and Reedsburg, graduating from Reedsburg High School in 1949. Don Lichte said," Nancy Ready was the prettiest girl in the Reedsburg High School". During high school, Nancy was a member of the "Tams Club". A group of high school friends from Reedsburg and she was very proud of the club. Her early employment included Brown's Drug Store in Reedsburg. Her boyfriend at the time, Ritchie Bartholomew, then got her a job at the office of Dr. Edwards in Baraboo as his sister was on maternity leave. Mom loved that job and often spoke fondly of it. She later met Harley James Vodak and they were married in 1956. She spent the next 53 years by his loving side, growing their family business Vodak TV, along with Joseph and Barbara Vodak. Nancy was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for many years and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Harley and Nancy were blessed with good health throughout most of their lives. While raising a family of 4 children, they made time to travel extensively around the United States and the world. Their favorite traveling companions were long time friends Charles and Darleen Bindner of California. Happy hour for the four of them always started promptly at 4 p.m. Mom loved card club and birds, especially Cardinals. She enjoyed many family gatherings for holidays and of course "birthday month". She never complained of her later handicap and lived a full and wonderful life. Her health declined over the past 3 years and she put up a courageous and valiant fight, enduring many hospital and nursing home stays always to return to her home. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Loren) Thering ; Suzanne (Jerome) Ninnemann. One son, Kevin (Ronda Telvick) Vodak. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Barbara Vodak and Arnita Ready, grandchildren Jamie (Jenny) Kufner, Morgan and Lanaih Vodak & Regan Vodak. Her great grandchildren, Zachary Cheek, Jarrod, Justin and Jenna Kufner. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, special friends Frank and Rose Mosz, long time family friend Brother Terrence (BT) Bullock and of course by her beloved canine companion Dolly Mae(aka Daisy Duke & Dixie Lou). She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Irma Ready, parents-in-law, Joseph and Julia Vodak; husband, Harley James; son, Paul; brother, Robert Ready; brother-in-law, Joseph Vodak and sister-in-law, Mabel Grooms. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers involved in Nancy's care over the years including St. Clare Hospital, St. Clare Meadow's Rehab and St. Clare Hospice House/Home Health United.The Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 in the Holy Family Room in honor of Nancy. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. In memory of Nancy, buy yourself and a friend a nice dinner and/or drink and toast to her. Memorials can be made in Nancy's name to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Wisconsin Chapter, 1120 James Drive Suite A, Hartland, WI 53029. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
