Kathryn L. Statz

Kathryn L. (Kabele) Statz, Baraboo. left us on Saturday, March 14, 2015. She came into this world 97 years ago thanks to Mr. and Mrs. John Kabele of rural Portage. She now joins her sister Mildred "Midge" Bulgrin, brother Earl Kabele, and the love of her life, husband Henry "Hank" Statz. I once asked her why after thirty plus years, she never re-married after Daddy passed. "I already had the best" was the response. She was always totally dedicated to her faith, her husband, and the family. Mom was Valedictorian of her class, but back then farm and family were the priority over college. Mom and Dad raised and are survived by Ellie Nolden of Baraboo, Ed (Sharon) of Mauston, and Bernie (Linda) of Baraboo, who gave "Granny" 9 grandkids, 23 great grandkids, and 5 great-great grandkids. Mom was a lady of simple needs. A hot game of euchre, bingo at St. Joseph's, and an occasional visit to Ho-Chunk was enough. When I was in the jungles of Viet Nam in 1969, Mom wrote me every single day, and even sent some "care packages". Knowing they were coming kept me alive day after day for that awful year. I always said that Mom gave me life, and kept me alive for that whole year. A small sample of how blessed we all were to have had her in our lives. Love you Mom. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family, and my dog, Honey offer sincere thanks to the staff of Autumn Lane of Oak Park Place in Baraboo, as well as Agrace Hospice for their excellent care of Granny when we could no longer give it.
