Elaine M. Zinkie


Elaine M. Zinkie, 88, of Baraboo, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells.She was born May 8, 1926 in the town of Summit in Juneau County, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Giebel) Brandt. One June 1, 1946 she was married to Arthur Zinkie and was married for 59 years. Elaine began her working career at St. Mary's Ringling Hospital in Baraboo in the Nursery Department. After the transition from St. Mary's to St. Clare Hospital, Elaine retired after 35 years of service. She cared for more than 10,000 babies over her career. She loved taking care of newborns and cared for them as if they were her own.She enjoyed ceramics, gardening and cooking while living in the Baraboo area for the majority of her life. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church.Survivors include her two sons, Tom (Cathy) Zinkie of Baraboo and Steve (Denise) Zinkie of Yorkville, IL; four grandchildren, Greg Zinkie, Steph (Dan) Beardsley, Rachel (Chris) Weaver, Morgan Zinkie; three great-grandchildren, Miranda, Brooke, and Cole; one brother, Donovan Brandt of Wonewoc; two sisters, Lolita Lehman of Baraboo and Adeline Gendreau of Jacksonville, FL; and many other nieces and nephews from Canada to Florida, Texas and Wisconsin.She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, December 29, 2005; her parents; in-laws; several brother-in-laws; and a sister-in-law.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating. Interment will be follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Lutheran TV / Radio Fund would be appreciated. Elaine was a devoted listener to the Radio broadcast for the last 10 years of her life. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at the Golden Living Center for the wonderful care given to Elaine during her stay. Many thanks also to the staff at Our House Assisted Living in Baraboo, where Elaine resided for three years before moving to Golden Living.Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo is assisting the family with arrangements.
