Evan F. Schenkat, Sr. age 83, of Baraboo and Jefferson, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center.Evan was born on Dec. 18, 1930 to Frank and Emma (Schara) Schenkat. He married Mary H. Hoppenjan of Benton, WI on May 15, 1951 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Benton.Evan and Mary farmed in the North Freedom area for ten years after Evan's discharge from the U.S. Navy. They moved to Jefferson, WI in 1964 where Evan managed the Jefferson County Farm and then worked at Jefferson County Farm-Co Cooperative. They recently returned to the Baraboo area.Evan is survived by his wife, Mary; five children; Evan (Donna) Schenkat, Jr. of Ballwin, MO, Bonita (Cory) Carpenter of Bellville, WI, Ann (Don) Andringa of Portage, Mark (Sarah) Schenkat of Baraboo, Jean (Steve) Veum of Iron Mountain, MI; five grandsons, Matthew and Mitchell Andringa, Daniel Schenkat, Caleb (Alodia) and Mason Veum; three granddaughters, Melissa (Sergey) Tsvirko, Amanda (Zachary) Adams, Elizabeth Schenkat; three great-grandchildren, Zoey and Zayda Andringa and Torstein Veum; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hoppenjan and Ramona Hoppenjan and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard Hoppenjan, Francis and Jane Hoppenjan, Raymond and Gertrude McCabe and a granddaughter-in-law, Jessie Andringa.Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Redlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in a private family burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom following the service.In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Evan in a special way may direct memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, WI or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo. The family wishes to extend our appreciation and admiration to all of the staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center for their loving, wonderful and compassionate care of Dad.
