Ethel Adeline Steinke


Ethel Adeline Steinke, age 91, of Baraboo, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center with her family by her side. Ethel, daughter of Harry E. and Ella A. (Klukas) Herritz was born on July 11, 1923 in North Freedom. Ethel was united in marriage to Fred Steinke, Jr. on Nov. 9, 1946 at St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor A. Loock. The Lord blessed their marriage with a son, Dale. Ethel was very active in her younger years. She and her husband ran a large farm on Terrytown Rd. She stayed busy on the farm and worked as a custodian and meal server at nearby Pleasant Valley School. Her love of children and her knack of bringing laughter and joy to all young and old, made her who she was. Heaven may have gotten a little louder. Ethel an her husband retired in 1968 and built their new house. In 1990 life changed for Ethel when she lost the love of her life, husband, Junior. She then moved to Black Hawk Trailer Park. She was very active at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom. She had also been a member of American Legion Post 172 Auxiliary. Survivors include, her son, Dale (Judy) Steinke of Baraboo; grandson, Robert (Dina) Steinke of Juneau, Alaska; also Robert's mother, Patricia Steinke; siblings, Cliff Herritz of Mesa, Arizona, David (Jean) Herritz of North Freedom, James (Nancy) Herritz of Madison, Caroline (friend Don) Amadahl of Madison, and Judy Herritz Ellis of Indiana; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents; and husband; she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry, Ronald and Everett Herritz; and sisters, Shirley Herritz and Delores (Jerry) Griffith.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom with Pastor Andrew Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
