Edward Brecka


Edward "Ed" Brecka, age 89, of Baraboo passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Our House Assisted Living in Baraboo. Ed was born the son of Anton and Rosa (Stepanek) Brecka on October 8, 1924 in Cazenovia. He was united in marriage to Lorna Zuch on Aug. 16, 1947 in Greenfield Township. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex. He was a life member of the V.F.W Post No. 2336 and the American Legion Post No. 26, both of Baraboo. Ed was employed by Neco as a coil winder for 21 years; he retired in 1988. He had been a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorna of Baraboo; sons, Gene (Patti) Brecka of Reedsburg and Gary (Nancy) Brecka of Altoona; five grandchildren, Tanya (Chris) Sulik, Erin Brecka, Allison (Ty) Novak, Travis (Tracie) Brecka, and Tanner Brecka; great-grandchildren, Adrienne, Eleanor, Talon, Jaxon, Drake, Titan, Reece, and Hayden; as well as special nieces, Sue Johnson and Nancy Jenewein. He is further survived many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Charley, Tony Jr., Joe, John, and Adolf; and six sisters, Helen, Florence, Ann, Elsie, Rose, and Olga. Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. on Wednesday. October 8, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10a.m. until the time of service, at the church. Burial will follow services at Walnut Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veteran's Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
