George M. Kalka


George Michael Kalka, age 65, of Wisconsin Dells passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 after a long courageous battle with MS. George was born the son of George F. and Fran (Russy) Kalka on March 12, 1949 in Chicago. He was united in marriage to Penny J. (Steinhorst) Henke on June 29, 1991. George was a 1967 graduate of Baraboo High School. He continued his schooling at UW Whitewater and MATC. George owned and operated, with his family, in the Dells area, the Holy Cow, Red Bull, and Kalka's Family Restaurant. He was the former general manager for Devil's Head Resort in Merrimac. He later founded his own payroll service PAYCHECK. George was an avid outdoorsman; who spent countless hours hunting and fishing, and enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Musser Lake in Phillips, WI. George was a sports enthusiast having played baseball, golf, and basketball, in his early years. He always enjoyed watching the Brewers, Badgers, Packers, and the Golf Channel. George had a way of creating a lasting impression with whomever he met. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and employer; he will be dearly missed.George is survived by his mother, Fran Kalka of Baraboo; wife, Penny of Wisconsin Dells; sons, George (Melissa) Kalka Jr. of Oshkosh and Kraig (Jennifer) Kalka of Dane; the mother of his children, Kathleen Koenecke; step-children, Nicholas (Cindy) Henke of Wyocena, Gretchen (Wade) Teutschmann of Madison; grandchildren, Patrick (7), Sophie (5), Emmett (2), Blake (1), and Lukas (8 months). He is further survived by siblings, Cheryl (Marv) Finseth of Nevada, Patty Kalka of Chippewa Falls, Jeff Kalka of Wisconsin Dells, and Kim (Joe) Nehrkorn of Wisconsin Dells; as well as several nieces, and his loyal companion Brady Beagle. He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Kalka. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Redlin Funeral Home with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held from 9am until the time of service, at the funeral home. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
