Clair W. Craighead


Clair W. Craighead, age 71, of Baraboo passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 after a long battle with cancer, at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo. Clair was born the son of Gerald and Evelyn (Taylor) Craighead on January 22, 1943 in Alpena, Mich. During his first marriage he was blessed with two sons, Tim and Brian. Clair proudly served his country in the Navy on the U.S.S Hyman for six years. During his time in the military Clair was able to visit many places around the world, and was one of the first ships to arrive at the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was able to do many different jobs; most of his working career was at Isenberg's in Baraboo for over 20 years. Clair was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers. Clair is survived by his two sons, Timothy (Barbara) Craighead of West Bend and Brian (Beckie) Craighead of Baraboo; grandchildren, Jacob, Allison, Justine, Tyler, Nathan, and Mikayla Craighead; a sister, Diane (Jerry) Anderson of Texas; and special friend, Bonnie Kennedy. He is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his step-father, Gerhardt Schimdt; and sister, Peggy Bernhardt. He will be remembered as being a great dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, and most importantly friend. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30am on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. Baraboo, with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am until the time of service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Springs. The family would like to extend a special thank you to United Home Health Hospice, all those who cared for him, especially his nurse, Amber; as well as the staff at St. Clare Hospice House for their loving care and compassion.
