Arlene B. Rathjen


Arlene B. Rathjen, age 83, of Baraboo passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at her home. Arlene was born on Feb. 14, 1931 in Pardeevile, to Frank and Eva (Smith) Bortz. She was united in marriage to J. Hank Rathjen on Sept. 25, 1954 in Portage. Arlene worked for Thompson's Jewelry, in Baraboo, for many years. She was also longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Arlene bowled for many years. She was also an avid golfer, who played a large role in the Women's Golfing League at the Baraboo Country Club. Arlene is survived by her two children, Brian N. (Beverly) Rathjen of Mesa, AZ and Cheryl (Chris) Labeots of Baraboo; her grandchildren, Nick and Jake Labeots, and Kyle Rathjen; brother, Jerald Bortz of Gainesville, FL; sisters-in-law, Mary Bortz of Pardeeville, Barbara (Larry) Kampe of Windsor, and Grace (James) Timm of Tempe, AZ. She is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hank; father and mother-in-law, Justus and Olga (Lansendorf) Rathjen; brothers, Frankie, Charles, Russell, Gordon, and Robert Bortz; and sister Anna Mae Becker. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating. A Private Graveside service will take place at Walnut Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, in Baraboo. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
