Albert W. "Al" Mayer


        Albert W. "Al" Mayer, age 96 of Lake Delton, passed away early Friday morning, July 18, 2014 at home.Al was born Aug. 29, 1917. He was the oldest of 3 sons born to Leo and Amelia Mayer. Al was born in Baraboo where he lived most of his life. He married Dorothy A. Mayer of Baraboo on March 3, 1949 in Beloit. Together they had six children. He later relocated to Lake Delton, WI.Al proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the United Stated Army. He retired from the Badger Ammunition plant and Mayer Radio & TV. Al loved to bowl. He was part of a team that won state champions in 1976, and was individuals state champion in 1987. He pitched horseshoes and played in leagues for many years. He was a member of the Eagles Club, where he once served as president as well as a lifetime Elks Club Member.Al is survived by his brothers Oscar Mayer and Victor Mayer; his special friend and "partner in crime", Mary June Wolff; his children, Patty (Larry) Pawlak, Jerry Mayer, Teresa Mayer, Tina Peters, Greg (Julie) Mayer; his grandchildren, David (Andrea) Pawlak, Krystal (Greg) Montgomery, Lacey Van Fossen, Alex Mayer, Madeline Mayer and Jacob Mayer; his great-grandchildren, Rachel Pawlak, Paige Pawlak, Derek Pawlak, Peter Montgomery, John Montgomery, Genevieve Montgomery, Andrew Montgomery, Natalie Van Fossen, Allie Van Fossen, Grace Van Fossen, and Brady Van Fossen, as well as his nieces, nephews and many friends.Al was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Mayer, son-in-law Barry Peters, great-grandson Paul Montgomery, and his former wife Dorothy Mayer.The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to St Jude's Hospice Care for their compassion and support. Al was a father, papa, brother, and friend to many. He was dearly loved and will be missed every day.A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard.
