Dorcas "June" Jackson


June Jackson died April 16, 2014 at Our House Assisted Living in Baraboo. She born on April 11, 1922 in Chicago, IL to James and Pearl (Storey) Creed, who fostered her love of horses by taking her to the Arlington Race Track. She married the love of her life, Kenneth (Jack) Jackson, who preceded in her death in 1982. While in Chicago, she worked at Continental Insurance and later she and Jack owned a small restaurant near Calumet High School, which served many of the students. In 1968, the family moved the Baraboo area. Over many years she worked at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant; was a cook at Baker's Restaurant and then a salad chef at Devi-Bara; then worked in sales at Isenberg's in Baraboo, Aunt Jennie's Gift Shop in Wisconsin Dells, and finally at the Baraboo Wal-Mart before retiring. For the thirty years she lived outside of Baraboo, she enjoyed watching deer, turkeys, and other wildlife coming through her yard. She loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears, car races (especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. & Jr.), horse races and golf.She is survived by sons, Nick (Lynn) Phelan, and Tom (Nancy) Phelan; four grandchildren, Nick (Dawn Smith) Phelan, Lori Phelan, James (fiance Courtney Donaker) Phelan, and Brandy (Mark) Lea; five great-grandchildren; nieces and a nephew.June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Jewel; and son, Wayne Phelan.Her family wishes to thank the staff at Our House for the compassionate and excellent care they gave to June during her stay. Also, Dr. Krszjzaniek for going above and beyond as her doctor. Thanks also to Home Health and St. Jude's Hospices staff and volunteers for the care they provided to make June's last months more comfortable. A private family service will be held at a later date.
