George Edward Alongi


George Edward Alongi, 87, of Lake Delton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. George was the son of the late Antonio and Rose Maria (Anzalone) Alongi. He was born on December 28, 1926 in Chicago, IL.George served his country in the Army ushering out the end of WWII from 1945 to 1947. He was stationed in Japan as part of the Pacific Corridor. After the war, George returned home to Chicago and began his 42 year career with Montgomery Ward's as an electrician for their catalog warehouse. George discovered the Lake Delton and Baraboo area which became a favorite vacation destination with his family, and since retirement, made the area a permanent residence. He enjoyed gardening, camping, ball room dancing to big band music, as well as spending time with friends and family. His home was a true Italian one, which no one ever left hungry or thirsty.George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 50 years, Louise Marie Alongi (Hess) of Lake Delton; daughters Betty J. Alongi of Lake Delton, and Denise F. (David) Scahill of Vista, CA; sons, Dwayne E. "Tony" (Kathleen) Alongi of Palm Harbor, FL, and Robert G. Alongi of Lake Delton; grandsons, Shawn and Patrick Scahill of San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Marissa Shears of Brookfield, IL, Ashley Alongi, Nicole Alongi, and Angela Alongi, all of Palm Harbor, FL. George is furthered survived by his faithful and constant four legged partner, Kolby.Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John (Bessie) of Chicago, IL, Salvador (Margie) of Chicago, IL, Thomas (Ann) of Tampa Bay, FL, Anthony (Lillian) of Elgin, IL; and sister, Josephine Alongi of Lake Delton.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday May 16, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Father Garrett Kau officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Redlin Funeral Home, in Baraboo, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Military Rites will be conducted at the church following the mass by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Sauk County Humane Society. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
