Julia E. Meissner


Julia E. Meissner, age 100, of Baraboo passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Reedsburg Area Hospital. Julia, daughter of Joseph and Julia (Kozik) Vavra, was born on February 13, 1914 in Binghamton, New York. Julia attended Binghamton High School where she played on the basketball and field hockey teams. She was united in marriage to Leonard Meissner on January 12, 1946. During WWII, Julia was an executive secretary to an admiral in the Navy, and served in the 10th fleet in Washington, DC. After the war, she worked for Conway and Conway Law Office, and later Earl Netzband and Associates. In her free time, Julia loved playing bridge, gardening, bowling and dance club.She is survived by her children, Judith (Thomas J) Tate of Reedsburg, William (Christine) Meissner of St. Cloud, MN, and Leonard (Marie) Meissner of Stillwater, MN; four grandchildren, Sarah Meissner and Anna Meissner both of Minnetonka, MN, David (Beth) Meissner of Plymouth, MN, Nathan (Katie) Meissner of Carbondale, IL; sister, Angeline Pedersen of Chevy Chase, MD; and niece, Joyce (Ray) Kluger of Dresden, NY.Julia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Joseph; sisters, Helen and Mary; niece Juliann; and brother-in-law, Wesley.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Father Garrett Kau officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
