Helen Zantow


Helen Zantow, age 94, of Baraboo passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov 10, 2013 at St. Clare Meadows.She was born on June 3, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Licht and was a lifelong resident of Baraboo. She married Lawrence Zantow at St. John's Lutheran Church on August 23, 1941; they were married for 71 years. Helen was employed by AT&T as a telephone operator her entire work life in Baraboo and later in Madison until her retirement in 1981. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church.Helen is survived by her two sons Steve (Betty) of Scottsdale AZ, and Scott (Jan) of Brookfield WI, and one daughter Barb (Jim) Mayhew of Middleton WI; six grandchildren, Ryan (Jen) Zantow, Jessica (Eric) Maceyko, Derek (Traci Elton) Mayhew, Aaron (Brianna) Mayhew, Matthew Zantow, Emily Zantow; and four great-grandchildren, Noah Mayhew, Ethan Maceyko, Maddy Zantow, and Patrick Zantow.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Virgil, her husband Larry and her sons Thomas, Charles and Timothy.Helen was always a kind generous person especially with her time. She was always the first to help people who needed a ride to get to their appointments in Baraboo and Madison. She always volunteered at church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandma and will be cherished in our hearts forever.The family will be holding a private service in her honor. Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center for their care given to Helen. Through the darkness, I can see your light, And you will always shine, And I can feel your heart in mine, Your face I've memorized, I idolize just you, And after all is said and done, You're still you.
