Margaret Smith


Margaret Ruth Smith, 82, of Baraboo passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at Oak Park Place in Baraboo. Margaret was born on Sept. 18, 1931 to Harry and Ruth (Hart) Hanson in Baraboo. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Clarence "Bud" W. Smith on Jan. 15, 1949 in Dubuque, IA.Margaret was employed throughout the Baraboo community, where she worked at Teel Plastic, Woolworth's Lunch Counter, and the Alpine Restaurant. She was a VFW Auxiliary member for many years. Some of her favorites past times were watching the Green Bay Packers, being on a bowling league; and canning enough tomatoes to feed her family through one winter, which was at least 350 quarts.Margaret is survived by her children, Candace (Ronald, Sr.) Schell of Merrimac, Cindy (Scott) Harvey of Portage, Connie Powell of Wisconsin Dells, Clarice (Jerry) Flinn of Houston, TX, Cheryl (Ron) Shanks of North Freedom, Renee (Tim) Gebhard of Portage, Colleen (Clayton) Sorensen of Wisconsin Dells, Jenny Wedvick of Madison, Jackie (Dan) Posthuma of Sheboygan Falls, Clarence "Bill" Smith, Jr. of Baraboo, and Jon "Red" Smith of Berlin; she is further survived by 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion (Bill) Schreiber of Baraboo; a brother, Howard Hanson of Nelson; as well as many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; brother, Jim Hanson; and nephew that she was a guardian for, James Gugel.Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave., Baraboo, with Pastor Dan Gunderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
