Marcella "Sally" Spaulding


On April 4, 2013 Marcella "Sally" Spaulding was called to glory to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 88. On Dec. 4, 1924 Marcella Vernell Holtz was born to William and Amanda (Behnke) Holtz in Ableman (formerly Rock Springs), Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran in Ableman. Sally graduated from Reedsburg High School. On Sept. 26, 1945, she married Raymond Burnett Spaulding, they lived in Rock Springs, Baraboo and Menomonee Falls. They returned to Baraboo in 1975, and became faithful members of St. John's Lutheran Church. Ray died Nov. 12, 2009 after several years of illness and loving care from his devoted wife.Sally had been an active member of St. John's Ladies Aid always helping in the kitchen and anywhere she was needed. She always remembered family and friends with getting cards for every occasion. Ray and Sal traveled around the USA including two trips to Alaska. She loved getting and giving hugs, "A gift anyone can give." A kind and thoughtful lady. the residents of Bethesda Lutheran Communities held a special place in her heart.She was loved and will be missed until we see her again. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Spaulding of Apple Valley, MN; brother LeRoy "Butch" Holtz of Wisconsin Dells; sister-in-law and good friend, Esther Holtz of Rock Springs; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lorraine Geyman-Klingenmeyer; brothers, Willis and Evan Holtz.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services, at the church.Many thanks to Dr. Eric Hamburg and the staff at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living for their care and compassion.
