Ardice K. Cady


Ardice K. (Tooley) Cady, age 86, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in Baraboo. Ardice was born on January 17, 1927 in the town of Troy in Sauk County with her twin sister Audrey, to Lee and Nellie Tooley.She grew up on the family farm near Blackhawk and was always known as "one of the Tooley twins" because no one could tell them apart.She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1944 and went to work at Oscar Meyer in Madison. This is where she met Alton (Bud) Cady and they were married on June 28, 1947 at the family farm near Blackhawk. They were blessed with three children, one son, Kendall (Carla) Cady; and twin daughters, Carilyn Hoppe (deceased) and Marilyn (Keith) Nechvatal.Ardice worked at the Hammock Factory and drove school bus, but her most important job was raising her children and being instrumental in starting and operating the family business, the Double K-D Ranch Campground. For the last 48 years, the regular campers were considered her extended family.There was nothing she couldn't do as long as it involved being outside. She spent many years as a leader in 4-H and Cub Scouts, and any activity her children and grandchildren were involved with. She was also a member of Emanuel United Methodist Church in Baraboo.She is survived by her husband, Bud of 65 years; son, Kendall (Carla) Cady; daughter, Marilyn (Keith) Nechvatal. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Matt (Amber) Hoppe, Brittany (Bob) Hopper, Jessica (Chad) Holiday, Lainie Nechvatal, Kyle Cady, foster grandchild, Nick Allen; great-grandchildren, Justin, Cady, Maggie, Molly, Cassidy, Cennedy; step-great-grandchildren, Kyla and Grayson; as well as sister-in-law, Marciel Tooley; brother-in-law Ty Sandmire, and numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Nellie Tooley; her brother, Lowell Tooley; her twin sister, Audrey Sandmire; and her daughter, Carilyn Hoppe.Funeral Services will be held Sat., Feb. 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating. The visitation will be held Fri., Feb. 15, 2013 from 4p.m.-7p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. Baraboo and on Sat., Feb. 16, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo. In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to Southwest Family Care Alliance (840 Lincoln Ave. Baraboo, WI 53913), as they provided loving care; or to a charity of your choice in Ardice's name.The family would like to thank Dr. Damos and caregivers Becky, Sally, and Carmen, and Shawn Froh of Southwest Family Care Alliance for their loving care and kind heart in her last few months.
